Sighting of Asian Hornets

Wednesday, September 05, 2018 12:05 | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Fears that Asian hornets could decimate UK bee colonies have risen after a sighting of the hornet in Cornwall. It was seen at Fowey. It is the fourth confirmed sighting in the UK since 2016.

The timing is significant because queens establish nests at this time of year.

One Asian hornet can kill 500 bees a day and a nest of hornets can contain up to 6,000 workers.
