All set up and ready to go - Lorraine & Annette waiting for the first visitors

Lorraine explains what is going on in the observation hive to a fascinated young visitor

Annette (Senior Sales Assistant) makes the first sale of the afternoon

The observation hive was (almost) as popular as the face painting with our young visitors. (note the magnifying glass)

The Association was again invited to participate in the Cyrenians Midlothian Community Hospital Garden Open Day. The event gives us the opportunity to promote the association, bee conservation and the important role that bees have in the garden as well as giving us the opportunity to sell our produce and raise funds for our activities.

Our representatives at the event were Lorraine, Annette and Malcolm and they were kept busy for the afternoon talking to the many visitors that were attracted to the observation hive that was on display. It was of great interest to both young and old alike with our oldest visitor celebrating her 92nd birthday with a visit to the Garden Open day. The observation hive was without doubt the main attraction to the many young visitors who stopped to ask questions when they spotted the hive.

Honey, Beeswax Wraps and Honey Tablet were the biggest sellers. We raised in excess of £200 during the afternoon and made a small donation of £25 to the Cyrenians to support the excellent work they do in the Community Hospital Garden.

Our thanks to those helping on the day and also to those donating items to sell on the stall.
