Three Hives Stolen From An Apiary Near Biggar

Friday, June 26, 2020 22:36 | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Last Monday or Tuesday (22/23 June), 3 of Jimmy Burns' hives were stolen from his apiary near Biggar despite being behind a locked gate and screwed down to the hive stands. It seems that his other 3 hives were fixed down sufficiently securely to avoid a similar fate. It appears that Jim isn't the only victim in the area with similar thefts being reported on social media at Glenholm near Broughton, Coulter and Carstairs in the last few months. Jimmy's hives are the rather distinctive "Wormit" design so, if found, would be easy for a bee keeper to identify.

Beware if you do find bees and hives for sale from an unexpected source, or see suspicious activity around any apiary, please phone 101 to notify the police.
