    There has been a further confirmed Asian hornet sighting south west of Ashford in Kent, making this the third sighting in total this year.   Keep up the vigilance as these sightings are not close in location to each other!  The previous sightings resulted in the discovery and destruction of the nests.

    As promised, the latest update is to confirm the nest in the Tamworth area has been found and destroyed.

    Well done to all those involved in sighting, tracking and dealing with this.

    Asian hornet week runs from 9th - 16th September so please be extra vigilant throughout that week and for a few weeks after.

    We had the privilege of having Newtongrange Scout Patrol visit the Bee Academy on Wednesday 4 September.

    A very energetic group of girls and boys, absolutely full of questions. They even washed the spoons after the honey tasting, well done.

    NBA members and visiting guests enjoyed a great talk on Wednesday last week in the NBA Bee Academy by Professor David J Evans (the Apiarist). He covered varroa and viruses it transmits, why deformed wing virus caused overwinter colony losses, a brief overview of treatments for varroa and rational varroa control - the timing and co-ordination of varroa. At the end of the talk we were all much enlightened  ....
