Description

Apivar - sold as a single strip at £2.80 each. Each Brood Box requires two strips and a Nuc one strip It will cost you £5.60 to treat one Brood Box and £2.80, a Nuc. Apivar strips are typically left in the hive for 6 to 10 weeks. Minimum treatment period: 6 weeks, usually when brood levels are very low or absent. Typical autumn treatment: 10 weeks, allowing the strips to affect mites emerging with successive brood cycles. After treatment: The strips should be removed and not left in the hive indefinitely. A few important points: The active ingredient, amitraz, is released gradually from the strips throughout the treatment period. Apivar is not temperature dependent, unlike some varroa treatments, so it can be used in spring or autumn when appropriate. Honey supers must not be on the hive during treatment. In Scotland, if you're treating after the summer honey harvest, many beekeepers apply Apivar in August or early September and leave it in for the full 10 weeks to ensure good control of varroa. This Apivar will expire in December 2027.
