Guide to Soda Crystals Solution Strengths Strong 1 Cup (200g) to 1 Pint (500ml) of hot water Regular 1/2 Cup (100g) to 1 Pint (500ml) of hot water Mild 1 Tablespoon (20g) to 1 Pint (500ml) of hot water For best results use hot water. Actual strength depends on task.
Steps for Cleaning Hive Parts with Soda Crystals
Scrape off debris: Use a hive tool to scrape off as much wax and propolis from the hive parts as possible onto newspaper.
Prepare the solution: In a suitable container, dissolve 1 kg of soda crystals into 4.5 to 5 litres of hot water. A small amount of washing-up liquid can be added to help with cleaning.
Soak the parts: Submerge the hive parts in the soda solution.
Scrub and Rinse: Scrub the equipment with a wire or churn brush to remove remaining wax and propolis. Then, rinse the parts with water to remove any residue of the soda crystals.
Dry thoroughly: Allow the cleaned hive parts to air dry completely before reusing them.

Avoid varnished and lacquered surfaces
Not to be used in drinking water
User with sensitive skin should avoid prolonged contact with highly concentrated solutions of Soda Crystals
Causes serious eye irritation Keep out of reach of children Wash hands thoroughly after handling
Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection
IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes
Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do
Continue rinsing
If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention
