We have just heard that Newbattle Abbey College have cancelled the Spring Introduction to Beekeeping course that was scheduled to start today, 7 May.

The tutor for the course has had an unfortunate accident and has broken some in one of her hands.

All being well there will be an Autumn course later in the year. We will keep you posted.

Beekeeping Course Starting Spring 2025!

Date: Every Wednesday from 7 May until 11 June (inclusive)

Time: 6 pm – 8 pm

Location: Newbattle Beekeepers Association, located in the college grounds

Cost: Adults £78, Concession £68 (60+, unemployed, and students)

Join us for an exciting journey into the ancient art of beekeeping!

Participants will be introduced to the fascinating science of honey bee reproduction and honey production.

The Spring course begins just as the bees are gearing up for the summer season. Weather permitting, we'll arrange a visit to the hives to see these incredible insects in action. You'll learn about their habitat, their crucial role in the natural world, and how you can help honeybees thrive as a beekeeper or gardener.

Biking for Bees: Cycling from the UK to New Zealand

Jaya attempted to cycle solo from the UK back home to New Zealand. Needless to say she had quite the adventure. Join Jaya live to hear about the highs, lows, how far she got and the people and beekeepers she met along the way.

Abelo are thrilled to announce the grand opening of their new shop in Scotland!

They are grateful to Peter of Caddon Hives for allowing them to share his premises at Galashiels. This beautiful location at the foot of the Tweed Valley is already the home of Caddon Hives and thanks to Peter they now have a fully stocked Abelo shop there too. They have been working hard over the last few weeks to bring  everything to you. Abelo of Scotland in the heart of the Tweed Valley will be trading from Tuesday 1st April.

Online entries are now open for the Scottish Honey Championships which are held each year in the "Honey Tent" at the Royal Highland Show.  

The entry fee is £4.00 and the Prize money is:

1st - £10.00,  2nd - £6.00, 3rd - £4.00

The judges for the 2025 show are:

Bill Fisher, Sue Carter, Elaine Hargreaves and Bridget Knutson
