Healthy Bees Project - Honey Bee Behaviour

Tony Harris NBD & Ann Chilcott

    both Scottish Expert Beemasters

Explore honeybee behaviour in areas such as the population cycle, communication, foraging behaviour and organisation, workload, reproduction, and swarming. In each of these areas delegates will discuss what is understood of honeybee behaviour, and the factors that influence this behaviour, which will give delegates a greater understanding of the ‘colony mind’. Through understanding the natural behaviour of honeybees, delegates will be better prepared to predict and/or respond to their needs.

    SBA syllabus: Modules 1, 2, 6, 8

    Target Audience

These 2 day courses are aimed at enthusiastic beekeepers at all levels who simply want to improve their beekeeping. Students are welcome to apply on a first come, first served basis.

It's that time again when volunteers are needed to make items to sell in preparation for the Christmas at Newbattle Fair, which is scheduled for 23 November 2019. This year's prep day is 10 November 2019. We will be making seed balls and candles, if members are generous enough to donate wax. Watch out for Myriam's note on that subject. We are also making wax cloths that can be used as a substitute for cling film.
